5Ks in the 901

It’s time to get your running shoes out and support some awesome causes in the 901! There is a range of different races throughout the city, so grab some pals and get out there.

Here is a (non-exhaustive) list of different 5Ks in the Bluff City for the next few months:

  • Saturday, April 4th | ACROSS TOWN 5K | 9am
    Come run or walk through the beautiful streets of Bartlett, as well as attend a free Health Screening for all! The race will take place at Bartlett United Methodist Church (5676 Stage Road).

  • Saturday, April 11th | FEDEX ST. JUDE CLASSIC FAIRWAY 5K | 8am
    The 3rd annual Fairway 5k will give you the opportunity to take on the challenge of a PGA TOUR golf course and run through the Southwind community before coming down the stretch on the FedEx St. Jude Classic’s finishing holes. After the race, catch your breath at the post-race party! Smoothies, Bloody Marys, Mimosas, pizza, live music and more, this family friendly event is one you won’t want to miss. The race will take place at TPC Southwind (3325 Club House Dr, Memphis, TN 38115).

  • Saturday, April 11th | MARGIE DOWELL 5K RACE FOR UNITY IN OUR COMMUNITY | 9am
    In honor of Margie Dowell, this race helps fund a scholarship that is given to a student that demonstrates outstanding leadership and involvement in the community through nonprofit organizations. Mrs. Dowell demonstrated these qualities throughout her long list of services to Bellevue Middle School, where the race will take place.

  • Saturday, April 11th | GEROLD BLUM MEMORIAL 5K | 10am
    Gerold Blum was a beloved son, friend, and University of Memphis ROTC Cadet who passed away unexpectedly in December of 2013 due to a rare heart condition. At only 18 years old, Blum was heavily involved at the U of M and was loved by many. Come join his family and friends as they run this race in his memory. The American Heart Association will receive all donations and proceeds through The University of Memphis Army ROTC program in Gerold’s name. The race will be held at Overton Park.

  • Friday, April 17 | OPENING EYES TO AUTISM 5K | 7pm
    Starting on Beale, running down Riverside and ending up at Gibson Guitar Factory, the 6th annual Opening Eyes For Autism 5k is benefitting those in the community served by the Austism Society of the Mid South.There will be pre-race activities held at Gibson Guitar Factory (145 Lt. George W. Lee Ave), as well as various prizes and tshirts!

  • Saturday, April 18 | ADPI RUN FOR RONALD 5K | 10am
    Come jog your way through the beautiful University of Memphis Campus as you run to benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Memphis and The Alpha Delta Pi Foundation! Runners will be provided with water bottles and t-shirts will be available for purchase. Come join ADPi for this community run on our college campus for a great cause.

  • Saturday, April 18 | YOUTH VILLAGES 5K & 10 MILER RACE | 9am
    Come run through the Ridgeway Loop (1000 Ridgeway Loop) to benefit the children and families of Youth Villages, who are dedicated to helping our nation’s most vulnerable and troubled children. You can walk or run your way through the 5k or even run the “10 miler.”
    Runners, Volunteers, and Sponsors are all welcome.

  • Saturday, April, 25 | STRIDING FOR AUTISM 5K | 8:30am
    Help to bring awareness to the Autism Society’s mission of providing support, advocacy, and education for all those affected by Autism by making strides for a cause at this 5k. This race will definitely be one to clear your calendars for; it will feature face painting, balloon artists, kids activities, and musical entertainment! The race will be held at Wolfchase Galleria (2760 North Germantown Parkway, Suite 250)

  • Saturday, May 2nd | NAACP YOUTH COUNCIL 5K FUND RUN/WALK 
    Don’t miss one of Memphis’ longest running 5k’s, the 23rd annual 5k for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP)  the nation’s largest and oldest civil rights organization. It will be held in Audubon Park and is a fun and family friendly event.

  • Sunday, May 3rd | OAK HALL RUN FOR ST. JUDE | 3pm
    Memphis is proud to be home to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, a place where no child is turned away. St. Jude ensures that each child will be given maximum amount of care without costing their families a single penny. It costs 2 million dollars to run St. Jude for one day; be a part of the reason they can continue to provide such extensive care to children with cancer. The Oak Hall Run for St. Jude will start and end at Oak Hall (6150 Poplar Avenue) and will also have live music and post-race BBQ from Germantown Commissary.

  • Saturday, May 9th | BLACKLIGHT RUN | 8:30pm
    This is a race focused less on speed and more on UV neon glowing fun! Whether you’re a professional 5k-er or you occasionally take your dog for a walk in the park, this race is the one for you; it will leave you glowing and excited for the next one. Wear white and prepare to be covered in backlight powder, that will glow brightly at the Blacklight Run After Party. Every participant will receive a t-shirt and admission to the after party. VIP packets are available and will include VIP shirt, glow packs, LED shades and more. Race will take place at Memphis International Raceway (5500 Victory Ln Millington, TN 38053)

  • Saturday, May 9th | 2015 JUNIOR LEAGUE OF MEMPHIS 5K FOR KIDS | 9am
    Help fight childhood obesity with the Junior League of Memphis and ensure a healthy life for the kids and families of our community. The Junior League of Memphis 5k will take place at the Community Resource Center Memphis, TN, and will feature awards, t-shirts, and numerous benefits to community projects.

  • Friday, May 15th | RYLEE’S RUN 5K | 7pm
    Rylee’s Run will be in honor the late premature daughter of Jason and Jessica Vinson. Proceeds from the race will benefit March Of Dimes, who help mothers have full-term pregnancies and healthy babies. Come run for the fight against premature birth, birth defects, and infant mortality. The race will be held at Mike Rose Soccer Complex.

  • Saturday, May 16 | EYE OPENER 5K | 6pm
    This race is held in honor and in memory of Kyle W. Kiihnl, a Houston High School student who was killed in a car accident involving a driver who fell asleep at the wheel. It is also in memory of any other member of our community that has been directly effected by sleep related car wrecks.  Proceeds from the race will benefit Kyle’s scholarship fund research and community awareness activities performed by The National Sleep Foundation. The race will be held at Houston High School (9755 Wolf River Blvd, Germantown, TN 38139)

  • Saturday, May 16th | JOHN “BAD DOG” MCCORMACK MEMORIAL 5K | 8am
    John “Bad Dog” McCormack was a native Memphian and beloved radio personality to “The Kids at The House” who worked for 20 years to expand and improve the Ronald McDonald House. The John McCormack memorial 5k will be run in his honor, as well as to benefit the Ronal McDonald House and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. The race will be located at at Handy Park on Beale Street.

  • Thursday, May 21st | ZOOM THROUGH THE ZOO | 6:30pm
    Experience a super fun self guided tour through one of Memphis’ most prized locations as you compete in this four-mile race or a one-mile fun run through the Memphis Zoo and Overton Park! The race will begin at The Memphis Zoo (2000 Prentiss Place).
  • Saturday, May 30th | ADVANCE MEMPHIS 5K | 8am
    Advance Memphis is an organization that works hard to restore hope, knowledge, resources, and skills to Memphians helping them towards financial stability and success. The Advance Memphis 5k run/walk will trail through the beautiful Ridgeway Loop, starting and finishing at First Evangelical Church. Memphis, TN, and will be filled with live music, great food, and family fun for everyone.

  • Friday, June 19th | MEMPHIS FARMERS MARKET CROP HOP 5K | 6:30pm
    Come support the health education initiatives of Memphis Farmers Market!
    The 4th annual Crop Hop 5k will begin and end at Memphis Farmers Market Central Station Pavilion and will be a scenic run through downtown Memphis. After the race, hang out and enjoy food, music, and beer.

  • Friday, June 19th | SUPERHERO 5K
    Calling all superheroes! Throw on your favorite superhero cape and come participate in the Superhero 5k brought to you by Liberty Mutual and the University of Memphis Alumni Association. The race will take place on the University of Memphis Campus. Children 12 and under are encouraged to participate in the Superhero Kids 400 Meter Dash. Following the 5K and Kids 400 Meter Dash, there will be an after party in the infield of Memorial Field. Refreshments and superhero games will be provided, as well as special appearances from some of your favorite superheroes.
    Dress to impress, prizes will be given for bets costume.

      • Superhero 5k: $25 ($20 for UMAA members)
      • Kids 400 Meter Dash: $12 ($8 for Pouncer’s Pals members)
      • Early registration is $25 or $20 for UMAA members. Registration for the Kids Superhero 400 Meter Dash is $12 or $8 for Pouncer’s Pals members. All participants will receive a t-shirt.
