On most summer nights, you wouldn’t see two thousand bikes in the Poplar Plaza Shopping Center parking lot. But on August 25th, bikers of all ages and fitness levels will congregate there once again for the 13th annual Midnight Classic Bike Tour, benefiting Meritan. The Lunar Festival portion of the evening begins at 10:00 PM. There will be food and drinks, naturally, several bike shops will have booths, and Venus Mission will play the stage. The 17-mile bike ride (hydrate!) starts at midnight and traverses East Memphis and Midtown, passing by some famous landmarks on the way. All riders must, MUST, MUST wear a helmet. Otherwise, traffic control has got safety covered. The ride ends at 3:00 AM at the latest.
The Midnight Classic will award a trophy to:
- the group with the most riders, as well as,
- best costume and
- best bicycle decoration.
The non-profit that the ride serves, Meritan, advocates for seniors as well as children in foster care in several states throughout the South, including Tennessee.
Minors cannot ride without an adult present on their behalf. Register online now; early bird registration ends August 18, and the adult price increases by $5. There are child, student, and military discounts. Don’t forget your helmet, and see you at Poplar Plaza Shopping Center the night of August 25th.
